Landmark Arabia’s Beat Diabetes Walk sees Saudi residents come together to raise awareness on diabetes

Jeddah-Saudi Arabia: 24 Nov 2019

Building on its efforts to raise awareness of diabetes in the region, Landmark Arabia, the Saudi arm of Landmark Group held its flagship CSR initiative, the Beat Diabetes Walk in Jeddah. Saudi residents and citizens came together to participate in the three-kilometre walkathon at Jeddah Corniche led by Renuka Jagtiani, Chairwoman and CEO, Landmark Group along with leaders of Landmark Arabia.

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Saudi Arabia has almost four million adults living with diabetes and ranks among the ten countries in the world with the highest prevalence of the condition. Sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy dietary patterns and low physical activity are known to be major risk factors leading to diabetes that is a growing concern in the Middle East.

The Landmark Group started the Beat Diabetes initiative in 2009 with an aim to encourage the community to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle and drive awareness about the prevention and management of diabetes.

Renuka Jagtiani, Chairwoman and CEO of Landmark Group, said: “It is great to see the people of Saudi Arabia join us in our efforts to raise awareness about diabetes through the Beat Diabetes Walk. People living with diabetes can take measures to significantly reduce its impact on their overall health through easy lifestyle changes.

She added: “Today, we have taken a crucial step towards a healthier Saudi Arabia. We hope this inspires families to take action by monitoring their blood glucose levels regularly, choosing healthier foods and embracing an active lifestyle.”

All registered participants received a complimentary walkathon kit, comprising a Beat Diabetes T-shirt and cap. In addition, residents had the opportunity to have their blood glucose levels checked for free at the blood testing kiosks set up at the venue that also hosted fun-filled activities for families, including a children’s corner featuring free fitness and sports activities.
